Brandon Allen/Alex Garnett ‘Celebrating the Tough Tenors’
Saxophonists Brandon Allen and Alex Garnett have been friends and musical sparring partners for well over 20 years.
The musical chemistry between them was apparent early on and is still very much the case today, both players inspiring the other to strive for greater heights.
They will be celebrating one of the great traditions in jazz, the ‘Two Tenors’, or in this case, the ‘Tough Tenors’.
For this particular project, a wide range of saxophone pairings will be remembered and reimagined.
Some of the more commonly known collaborations will include Dexter Gordon/Wardell Gray, Johnny Griffin/Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis, Sonny Stitt/Gene Ammons and Al Cohn/Zoot Sims.
Also, lesser known as well as contemporary pairings including David ‘Fathead’ Newman/James Clay, Joe Lovano/Joshua Redman, Seamus Blake/Chris Cheek and Eric Alexander/Grant Stewart.
Expect foot tappin’ rhythm and blues, classic hardbop, high energy modal blowouts, contemporary jazz and gorgeous full toned ballads.
