FUNK SOUL BROTHERS 2024

In the heart of London's vibrant 80's Brit Funk scene, three extraordinary musicians emerged as stars of the era's music industry. Junior, Errol Kennedy (Imagination) and David Grant (Linx) share more than just a passion for music; they experienced the same formative years, playing BBC's legendary Top of the Pops, touring worldwide, and navigating the dynamic landscape of Britain's evolving multi-cultural music scene. This trio of trailblazers broke barriers for up-and-coming Black artists, leaving an indelible mark on the UK's music industry with hit tracks such as "Mama Used to Say," "Just an Illusion," and "Intuition." Now, united by their shared journey, they stand as a band of brothers, ready to celebrate the music, stories, and collective experiences that laid the groundwork for future generations. Join them on a journey through time as they pay homage to their roots and the enduring legacy of their hits, pioneering Britain's Black artists.

Junior Giscombe Bio

Junior, born and raised in Wandsworth, London, embarked on a multifaceted musical journey that spans decades. Influenced by the soulful sounds of artists like Otis Redding, Bob Marley, and the doo-wop harmonies of the Moonglows, Junior's musical path began early. Transitioning from leading a local band during his teenage years to pursuing a full-time music career in the mid-'70s, Junior's dedication to music was unwavering. His breakout moment came with the release of 'Mama Used to Say', a chart-topping hit that earned him acclaim as a "Best Newcomer" by Billboard magazine. Collaborating with renowned producer Arif Mardin on subsequent albums further solidified his place in the music industry. Junior's versatility as a songwriter and performer led to collaborations with icons like Phil Lynott and appearances alongside artists such as Michael Jackson. Beyond his solo career, Junior's contributions extend to songwriting for artists like Sheena Easton and producing hits like 'Mama Who the Man' for Richard Blackwood. His influence as a pioneer of British R&B/Soul/Funk music has left an indelible mark on the industry.

Errol Kennedy Bio

Errol Kennedy, the iconic groove drummer of Imagination, embarked on his musical journey in London's vibrant funk soul scene of the 1970s, drawing inspiration from his childhood experiences in Jamaica's lively carnival and marching band traditions. A founding member of pioneering UK Funk acts Central Line and Midnight Express, he ultimately co-founded Imagination in 1980, the band soared to global success with over 14 hit records, including classics like "Just An Illusion," "Flashback," and "Bodytalk," earning numerous platinum, gold, and silver discs. Throughout the 1990s, Errol collaborated with legends such as Hugh Masekela, Jamiroquai, and Shalamar. Currently, he tours globally with Imagination Featuring Errol Kennedy, showcasing their Greatest Hits album. Beyond music, Errol and his wife Bev Sage initiated DrumathonLIVE during lockdown, a charity event supporting the NHS and children's mental health, their concept ultimately raising millions. He is also the inventor of the Quantum Drum Tuner, which will revolutionise drum tuning for musicians worldwide.
