Formed by pioneers of the music known as Brit Funk, The Brit-Funk Association features a 10-piece collective of musicians, with a core of Kenny Wellington, Breeze McKrieth and David Baptiste who had a number of National Chart Hits with both of the bands that they originally started, Light Of The World and Beggar & Co.
Now as part of this Brit Funk Supergroup, they are joined onstage and recording by Patrick saxophonist and former member of the original line up of Hi Tension that recorded the first album and hit singles Hi Tension and British Hustle and other much-loved classics.
Camelle Hinds of Central Line who had a UK Album chart hit with the album Breaking Point and singles Nature Boy and Walkin’ Into Sunshine contributes his bass playing to the most recent album ‘Ancestral Voices’.
Keyboard player Peter Hinds was also a member of the original line up of Light of the World and is especially known for composing the classic jazz funk anthem, Pete's Crusade. Peter then recorded several albums and toured with Incognito for many years and co-wrote the hit single 'Everyday".
Audiences have been thrilled as the musicians come together and perform tracks from the extensive back catalogue tracks including The Official Chart hit recordings from the Top 40 such as "Time”, “I’m So Happy" and “I Shot The Sheriff” by Light of the World, "Somebody (Help Me Out)"and Mule Chant Number 2 by Beggar & Co, "Hi-Tension"and "British Hustle", the classics by Hi Tension ‘’ Always There” by Incognito/Ronnie Laws/Willie Bobo as well as other classic tracks by the bands such as "There's a Reason", ""London Town", "Everyday", and some of the great music that inspired them by bands like Kool & The Gang, The Blackbirds and others of the genre.
The band have performed sell out shows in clubs across the UK and given stellar performances at festivals in both the UK and Europe.
The core of the collective, Kenny Wellington, David Baptiste, Patrick McLean, Breeze McKrieth and Peter Hinds are joined onstage by some of the finest musicians and associates that have performed with the different bands over the years.
This is not a tribute band but instead a celebration of the music played by the original and founding members joined by some of their long-time colleagues who so happen to be some of the finest of the genre around.
The band continue to enjoy success and celebrate their 3-album release which all hit the Number 1 in R& B Albums and will include some tracks from the critically acclaimed ‘Ancestral Voices’ album inspired the golden age and the bands only early inspiration journey.
